UW-MADISON BAND BACK IN SHEBOYGAN

The UW-Madison Band is coming back to Sheboygan.

The performance on April 4 at Urban Middle School will be a fundraiser for the city’s Mayor’s International Committee.

Mayor Mike Vandersteen says those who come will see the band just before their biggest annual concert in Madison.

“So people are going to get a real feeling of what that’s concert in Madison is like as they prepare for that.”

Tickets for the concert are available at Festival Foods in Sheboygan and online at sheboyganwi.gov.

“Our Mayor’s International Committee is having a fundraiser, and they’re bringing the UW Band back again. The Badger Band last appeared two years ago; and their appearance this time is set for April 4, it’s going to be at Urban Middle School auditorium. Tickets are available at Festival Foods; they’re $16.50 plus fees. And they’re also available on the city website; they’ll be a banner ad in the front, and just click on it and it will take you to that page.”

“This is a lead up to their big concert in Madison, so people are going to get a real feeling of what that’s concert in Madison is like as they prepare for that.”

12 members of the band are students from the Sheboygan area.

Proceeds will benefit the committee, which help to fund Sheboygan’s Sister City Program and Student Sister City Exchanges.

Posted on: January 7th, 2016 by Robert Ingraham

Watch WSCS programs ” City Desk” and “A Closer Look” with guests Betsy Alles, Executive Director of the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce and Dane Checolinski, Director of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp as they talk about Some Place Better.

SomeplaceBetter.org to provide employment opportunities to those seeking a better job and a better quality of life

Major lakeshore employers announced a need for thousands of immediate direct, full-time hires with hundreds more in the next few months. The announcement was made at a press conference this morning, January 5, in Sheboygan.

To connect job seekers to these opportunities, Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) and Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) revealed a new workforce attraction website, SomeplaceBetter.org, which will connect workers from around the nation with jobs, housing, educational alternatives for their children, and introduce them to the beauty and strong sense of community the Sheboygan County area offers. The site is complemented by a newcomer’s welcome guide.

Executives from Sargento Foods Inc., Bemis Manufacturing Company, Kohler Company and Aurora Health Care met with members of the media to outline jobs available at their firms. Over 35% of available jobs require 4-year education; however, many companies offer entry level jobs covering all aspects of training investment and compensation levels for full-time employment that start at $35,000 per year. Sheboygan County, Wisconsin still offers the American Dream.

Betsy Alles, Executive Director for the Sheboygan County Chamber stated, “Sheboygan County has more job opportunities than available workforce – a bonus for anyone looking for employment. Sheboygan County offers a better life balance with short commutes, globally-focused companies, world class recreation, innovative, award-winning schools and friendly, safe communities. We are truly Someplace Better.”

“If you’re underemployed or stuck in a cycle of temporary work, Sheboygan County firms have full-time careers that offer opportunity for advancement. Only 5% of Sheboygan County job postings are for temporary or seasonal workers.” noted SCEDC Director Dane Checolinski.
